Ron Diggins, the man credited with being the inventor of the mobile disco, is having an exhibition dedicated to his life’s work at Boston Guildhall in his hometown. This will take place until 11th January 2025 in celebration of his legacy there will also be dance sessions.
Diggins, the man who created the Diggola (a mobile disc jockey, that toured with portable sound, lighting and video systems) is having an exhibition dedicated to him that will celebrate the 75th anniversary of his mobile unit. It will take place at Boston Guildhall in his hometown of Boston from the 12th October 2025 to January 11th, 2025. To commemorate his legacy there will be planned dance sessions on Thursday 7 and Friday 22 November, and Thursday, December 19 (a Christmas special), from 4pm to 6pm. It is meant to get all ages from children-grandparents to dance to iconic tunes from the 1950s-70s.
This event has been made possible with the funding of SECLP NPO project Boston, East Lindsey, South Holland and the Arts Council England. It is hoped to tour the exhibition in 2025-2027 across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire, collecting further memories from people who “danced to Diggins”. The exhibition will conclude with a final performance back at the Guildhall in Boston.
Ron Diggins was a Professional radio engineer with a business providing address systems. In 1949 he built his famous ‘Diggola’ a wonderful art deco mobile DJ booth. Mobile DJs are disc jockeys that tour with portable sound, lighting, and video systems, playing music for a targeted audience. Over the years he DJ’d for 20,000 parties only charging around £50 for the events.
